A federal court in Lagos State has issued a warrant for the arrest of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, over an alleged $345,000 fraud.

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the court granted the order after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an ex parte motion for his arrest. Bilikisu Buhari, representing the EFCC, cited relevant legal provisions under Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution and Sections 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to back the request.

The EFCC revealed that Chinwo filed a petition against her former manager, accusing him of collecting royalties from her digital platforms and events without informing her of the transactions. The commission further alleged that Onyedikachukwu diverted approximately $345,000, failing to allocate the singer her rightful share of the funds.

The EFCC added that if the manager remains at large, they will issue a public summons to declare him wanted. The court has adjourned the case to January 24 for the manager’s arraignment.

It’s worth noting that after winning the Nigerian Idol music contest, Chinwo was signed by the Eezee Global Record label and released multiple successful songs and videos, amassing millions of streams and views across various platforms. However, she quietly parted ways with the label in 2022, leading to speculation about a potential rift.
