The media personality is reading the riot act to Nigerian restaurants as 2025 looms.
Outspoken media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, better known as Daddy Freeze, has issued a firm warning to restaurant owners in Nigeria ahead of the New Year.
In a post shared on his Instagram, the former Cool FM presenter made it clear that he would only patronize restaurants in 2025 that adhere to a specific set of rules.
One of his key demands is that these restaurants must stock diet, light, or zero-sugar drinks. Daddy Freeze emphasized that he does not consume regular sodas, as they are all loaded with sugar, and also avoids fruit juices, even freshly squeezed ones, due to their high sugar content.
He compared Nigerian eateries to those in the UK, where he claims they offer soft drinks with zero sugar or diet options. His post read:
“Dear Nigerian Restaurants, If You Don’t Stock Diet, Light, Or Zero Sugar Drinks, I Won’t Be Visiting Your Establishments In 2025.
I don’t drink regular soda; it’s all sugar.
I don’t drink fruit juices, even freshly squeezed, as they are sugar-loaded.
Aspartame is much safer than sugar. To be harmful, you’d have to consume at least 48 cans a day. The real danger is in the quantity. Remember, drinking 5 litres of water at once can lead to water intoxication.
All the restaurants I visited in the UK had zero-sugar or diet drink options. Nigerians, please take note.
It remains to be seen if Daddy Freeze’s intervention will be enough for Nigerian restaurant owners who are not already doing the things listed by the media personality to make the adjustments needed to follow the rules.
