Controversial musician Darlington Achakpo, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been released from Kuje prison after spending nearly two months behind bars.
His release follows a court ruling last Wednesday, when a federal high court in Abuja granted him bail set at twenty million naira (₦20,000,000).
Darlington’s lawyer, Stan Alieke, confirmed his release by posting photos with the singer on Instagram. Alieke also stated that they would be pursuing legal action against the Nigerian police for what they describe as his “unlawful detention.”

We are pleased to announce that our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo, also known as Speed Darlington (Akpi), has been released after two months of wrongful detention.
As his legal team, we are committed to exploring all legal avenues to ensure that he receives justice for the violation of his fundamental human rights by the Nigerian Police Force, as well as for the unjust treatment he endured.
Mr. Achakpo wishes to express his sincere gratitude to all those who supported him, with special thanks to my esteemed colleagues—Mr. Marshal Abubakar Esq., Barr. Deji Adeyanju, Barr. Hamza Nuh, and Barr. David.

Darlington was re-arrested on November 27, 2024, while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State, on charges of cyberstalking Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. This followed an earlier arrest in October 2024, after Burna Boy filed a petition accusing Darlington of making suggestive comments regarding the singer’s ties to embattled hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
Darlington will return to court on March 18 for trial on cybercrime charges.
