The RIAA has announced the inductees for the Class of 2024, featuring 67 artists from various genres and countries.
Among the artists recognized are South African stars Musa Keys and Tyla, who both earned platinum and gold certifications. Tyla made the list thanks to the massive success of her hit single “Water,” which was certified platinum. The song gained significant traction in the US, with the remix featuring Travis Scott spending several weeks on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 7. This achievement made Tyla the highest-charting solo female African artist on the Hot 100.
In addition, her self-titled debut album earned an RIAA gold certification, and the single “Truth or Dare” from the album also received a gold plaque.
2024 has been a standout year for Tyla, as she dominated the awards circuit, winning in the Afrobeats categories at the VMAs, BET Awards, and Billboard Music Awards. She also made history as the first-ever winner of the Grammy Award for African Song Performance.
Musa Keys also received his first RIAA certification in 2024 for his contribution to Davido’s hit single “Unavailable,” which earned a gold plaque.
These South African stars are part of a diverse list that includes 67th Grammy Best New Artist nominee Chapelle Roan, as well as Sexyy Red, YG Marley, and Karol G. The duo from South Africa is proudly representing the continent on a list that also features Nigerian-born American country music star Shaboozey, whose hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became the best-selling song of 2024, setting a record for the longest No. 1 run in Billboard Hot 100 history.
