South African sensation Tyla continues her dominance of the global award season as she wins the Afrobeats category at the 2024 Billboard Music Award.Tyla edges Burna Boy, Rema, Tems to 2024 Billboard Music Award
Tyla made a major mark at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, taking home both awards in the Afrobeats category.
In a year where she dominated the global award season, Tyla wrapped it up by winning Best Afrobeats Act and Best Afrobeats Song for her hit single “Water” at the Billboard Music Awards, held on December 12, 2024. Her track, which featured remixes with Travis Scott, saw its way into the top 10, helping her fend off competition from Nigerian stars like Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems.
These two new awards add to Tyla’s growing collection of global Afrobeats accolades in a year that also saw her triumph at the Grammys, EMAs, and VMAs.
At the same awards ceremony, Taylor Swift made history, becoming the most awarded artist in Billboard Music Awards history after winning 10 categories, surpassing her previous tie with Drake at 39 total awards.
