Dapper Music has responded to the recent controversy surrounding Shallipopi’s split from the label.
On December 11, 2024, Shallipopi publicly announced his departure from Dapper Music, citing claims of breach of trust and lack of financial transparency. In a statement shared on his Instagram, Shallipopi alleged that his trust was violated when he was made to sign a publishing deal with Dvpper Digital, a subsidiary of Dapper Music founded by Damilola Akinwunnmi, aka Dapper. He also accused the label of failing to provide full financial transparency and claimed that he was made to sign away 30% of his earnings in perpetuity.
In response, Dapper Music issued a statement categorically denying these allegations, calling them “shocking” and “unfounded.” The label emphasized that all contracts are presented to its artists with complete clarity and transparency, and that artists are provided with full legal representation to protect their interests.
Addressing the claims of financial opacity, Dapper Music clarified that it has fully cooperated with Shallipopi, whose real name is Crowbn Uzama, and his auditors. The label further explained that a meeting had been held on Monday, December 9, 2024, to address Shallipopi’s request for his financial statements.
Regarding the allegation that Dapper Music made Shallipopi sign away 30% of his earnings in perpetuity, the label denied this, stating that no such term exists in his contract. Dapper Music clarified that Shallipopi voluntarily accepted a 30% management fee, which is in line with global industry standards.
Dapper Music also reiterated its commitment to conducting business with the highest levels of integrity and transparency, stating that it is prepared to seek legal recourse if necessary. The label dismissed the accusations as premeditated, false, and fueled by individuals who envy the company’s success.
