. Cobhams Asuquo says it’s really bad
Veteran Nigerian singer Cobhams Asuquo has responded to the viral video of Edo State Governor, Okpebholo, struggling to read the figures from the 2025 national budget, calling the situation “very bad.”
The video has sparked a heated debate online, with many questioning the competence of Nigeria’s leadership. On December 11, 2024, Asuquo took to Instagram to express his disappointment and urged both leaders and citizens to reflect deeply.
He wrote, “To be clear, some of the brightest minds I have encountered in Nigeria come from Edo State. So, the question is, are we not ready to confront the truth, or do we not desire progress as much as we claim? While some decisions may be imposed on us, does that have to be our permanent reality?”https://www.instagram.com/cobhamsasuquo/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=c3f600e8-3675-4317-9c36-4466bc9fb56b
Highlighting the role of accountability and the need for collective action, Asuquo asked whether governance truly serves its purpose in the country.
“What does governance mean to us; all of us – the governed and the governor? I’m really confused this hot afternoon. This is bad. Very, very bad. There’s got to be a way out,” he added.
The singer’s statement resonated with many Nigerians, adding to the growing discourse on the state of leadership and the need for systemic reform in the country. Fans and followers flooded the post with comments, sharing their perspectives and calling for better governance.
A comment read, “He didn’t have any input in that budget else the figures won’t be confusing to him. He wasn’t even ready for the job. He represents some elite interests in the state. It’s sad.”
“Unfortunately there is no way out. Our systems are hijack while all of us are watching comedy skits!” another person wrote.
