Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido has underscored the importance of strong leadership to unlock Nigeria’s full potential. In a recent interview with Elevate Africa, the singer discussed the role of leadership and how music can contribute to Africa’s development. He highlighted how the entertainment industry has played a key role in reshaping global views of Africa and described music as a powerful tool for enlightenment.

When addressing Nigeria’s leadership, Davido commended the resilience and unique spirit of the Nigerian people but pointed out that the country’s progress is hindered by a lack of effective leadership. He stated, “Nigerians are incredibly adaptable. I always tell people that if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. We are survivors, strong-willed, but the only thing we’re missing is the right leaders to guide us.”

The globally acclaimed artist noted the influence and presence of Nigerians across the world as evidence of the country’s potential

“If you go anywhere in the world, everyone has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or anything, you’d have Nigerian friends.Anywhere in the world I fly to for shows, there are always Nigerian restaurants and Nigerian communities too. This just shows you that Nigeria is a force, you know?” he added.

He emphasised the need for better leadership in Nigeria to push the nation forward to its full potential.

“I felt like leadership is one of the main things. If we get it right, there isn’t anything that would stop us. I mean we can’t go forward without the best leaders,” he concluded.
